Welcome!

This site is both for the benefit of existing members and to let others know what our aims are, what we do and why we exist.

The WI is as relevant today as it was when it was launched in 1915. It is here to enable women like you to ‘make a difference’ – to the life you lead, to the community you’re a part of and to the world you live in.

It is the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK. The ideals of the Women's Institute are truth, justice, tolerance and friendship. The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.

But while doing all that we aim to have fun!

So what does the WI offer?

The WI offers women the best opportunity to make an impact in their communities, to influence local, national and world issues affecting the social, economic and environmental life of families and communities, and to learn traditional and new skills.

Did you know that since its inception in 1915 the WI had campaigned on a wide range of issues including:

Domestic violence , equal pay, oil pollution, Aids, farm gate milk prices, care of our environment, Stop Climate Chaos, chemicals and health, Fairtrade Fortnight, children's diets, exercise and health, healthy eating and supermarket packaging.

Current campaigns include Make Time for Mental Health, Link Together to Alleviate Loneliness, No More Violence, Climate Change, Get on Board for a Better Bus Service, Five Minutes That Matter - Cervical Screening, and End Plastic Soup .
