We are a small but friendly group of women who get together for support, friendship and fun. Our personal stories, talents and interests are all so varied that you are bound to find someone like you!
We are always keen to welcome new faces to our WI so if you are interested please take a look at our Programme page for this year's speakers and dates.
The WI is naturally diverse. It offers all kinds of opportunities to all kinds of women. For some women, an opportunity to catch up with friends; for others it’s a route to learning new skills, and for some the campaigning aspect of the organisation may be the key motivator.
Meetings are held at Bere Ferrers Church Hall on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7.15pm. There is a disabled toilet and disabled access through the side door of the hall. Our meetings are open to everyone so you don't have to be a member to come along - just turn up! Members get free entry to all our meetings and there is a small charge of £3 for non members.
We start the evening with our speaker and then have refreshments followed by a short business session. There is a monthly competition and a sales table with a different theme each month. Details of forthcoming events and visits are on display to sign up for.
Come and meet us and enjoy friendship in your own community. Have a night out with a variety of talks and demonstrations. You will be surprised - it's much more than just 'Jam and Jerusalem'; and there is so much more to being a WI member than the monthly meetings. In addition to the meetings, we have various groups covering different interests and also organise regular days or trips out and craft days. We also hold various fund-raising events. And there is the chance to take part in national or county competitions.
If you are new to the village or don't have anyone to come with, please feel free to give the secretary a ring on 01822 840193 and we can arrange for someone to bring you to the first few meetings so you don't have to walk in alone.
We look forward to seeing you!
You may attend as a visitor on three occasions, and we are sure after these trial meetings you will want to become a member.
When you feel ready to join us, the membership fees can be found at https://www.thewi.org.uk/become-a-member/membership-options/subscription-rates . Becoming a member has lots of perks including the Devon Federation Newsletter and 'WI Life' Magazine. WI Life is published eight times a year and is delivered directly to your door. Once a year you will also receive a booklet filled with special offers for WI members. If you join later in the year you pay pro rata.
Whether you want to join the WI or support as an Associate, you can get involved in a way that suits you.
Single WI membership
Standard WI membership is for any woman who wants to join her local WI group and regularly attend meetings. As a WI member, you can attend at least 11 meetings a year – giving you the chance to meet new people, hear from speakers and take part in different activities. You will have access to training opportunities and the option to get involved in WI campaigns, among many other member benefits.
Dual membership
If you already belong to a WI and discover another WI that you would also like to join, you can do so as a dual member. Dual members can attend meetings and take part in all activities organised by their WIs, although they only have full voting rights in their primary WI.
Associate membership
Are you unable to attend regular meetings at your local WI? Would you still like to become a member of the largest women's organisation in the UK? Then join as a WI Associate member! Find out more and sign up online today.
